What is an OTG data line?

Many users often see a feature called "OTG" when using their mobile phones, but they find that the prerequisite for using this feature is to have an "OTG" data cable, but they do not know what it does. This article will discuss this matter.

What is an OTG data line?
To put it simply, it is a data line that has the same function as the most common mobile phone charging data line, and can also be understood as a type of "USB data line". However, unlike traditional data lines, it is a data line developed specifically to provide data interaction for mobile devices. The data line that provides transmission media for devices is an OTG data line.
Common OTG data line types
When it comes to the types of OTG data lines, I have to mention OTG functions. OTG functions are provided by the "World USB Standardization Organization", which is an emerging technology, but can also be understood as a standard. OTG data lines have been developed based on these standards, and there are three common types: the first type is the "Micro 5PIN OTG" OTG interface that supports Android phones; The second type is the "Mini 5PIN OTG" interface that supports Android tablets; The third category is the "Lightning OTG" dedicated interface that supports Apple phones. In addition, there are Samsung's Micro USB3.0 OTG interface and Type C OTG interface.
How do I use it?
The way to use it is basically the same as the way to connect using a USB data cable. Take a phone and a USB flash drive as examples, first turn on the "OTG" function of the phone (IQOO Z3, click Settings, click Other Networks and Connections, and then turn on the OTG function switch). As shown below:
After turning on the "OTG" function, plug the OTG data cable that supports the "Type-C" interface into the tail plug of the phone. As shown below:
Then insert the device (USB interface device) that needs to be connected at the other end, such as a USB flash drive, camera, video camera, and so on.
